History

The Palais Royale building was built in 1926 during the Florida Real Estate boom. It was designed by George Feltham who was a leading St. Petersburg architect between 1913 and 1926. He also designed numerous other buildings, such as the First Baptist Church, the Ponce De Leon Hotel and the Historic Sunset Hotel.

Originally the Palais Royale was a ballroom for the "Elite". It held dancing with top bands from all over the area. A renovation in 1988 changed the ballroom into traditional style offices, retail spaces and exclusive Executive Suites. A third floor was added as well as sky lights to the roof, filling the atrium-styled building with natural sun light leaving the atmosphere bright and airy.
